The founder and president of the 45th Parallel Distillery, Paul Werni, joins host Steve Francisco to discuss how he started his business in New Richmond, Wisconsin starting with producing vodka to now producing several varieties of gin and whiskey.
Paul discusses the capital investments necessary to building his distillery in a highly competitive marketplace. The ever-changing costs for raw materials, including bottles, corkage, and grains along with the unpredictable impact of ever-changing tariffs have an impact upon small distilleries such as the 45th Parallel.
Paul notes that a significant market surplus of Kentucky whiskey has had an impact upon pricing and has caused many distilleries to shut down. The 45th Parallel Distillery offers tours at its production facility in New Richmond and also has an event venue in Stillwater, Minnesota suitable for weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, and retirement celebrations.
