You’ll be intrigued and amazed at the prevalence, applications, importance and impact that GIS has on our lives — think maps! Geographic Information System (GIS) is explained in understandable terms in the fascinating conversation guest Mike Koutnik has with host Bill Raker.

Mike shares examples of his award-winning work in helping communities, cities, government agencies, and organizations with their land and water conservation projects. The GIS software, programs and applications he has developed are widely used in designating, plotting, and managing those natural resources.

Projects Mike currently has underway include: 1) A new National Estuarine Research Reserve proposed near Green Bay, WI; 2) An automated digital “tour” of the 53 stops along the main route of the Northwest Sands Auto Trail; and 3) A map to be placed in each of 30 preserves for a land trust in WI, that will also use the same map design to deploy an interactive map of all their public preserves on their web site.
