John Gordon, is the Executive Director of the Minnesota American Civil Liberties Union (MN-ACLU). In a spirited discussion with Alan, they cover in their discussion the civil fallout from the George Floyd murder in 2020 and up to the January 6th, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. They also touched on community policing, facial recognition technology, ending the criminalization of poverty, right-wing fringe groups and suppression of the right to vote. With so much to cover, John agreed to return in March to continue the discussion.

Senator Jim Carlson (MN SD51) has been a guest on Access to Democracy show since 2002. Jim regularly reports on doings in the MN Legislature and political issues of the day. On today’s visit, he and Alan talked about the (too) slow rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine, and problems with its distribution, as well as some ideas as to what might be implemented to improve it. Jim also prioritized the leading issues facing the legislature in the 2021 session, already in progress.
